We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant to join our team in a Secondary School setting. £100 - £120 a day
- Provide one-on-one or group support to students with hearing impairments, ensuring their access to the curriculum and classroom activities.
- Assist in creating an inclusive learning environment by promoting effective communication between students, teachers, and peers.
- Interpret lessons, discussions, and instructions into British Sign Language for students who rely on sign language as their primary means of communication.
- Support students in developing their BSL skills and facilitating their integration into mainstream classrooms.
- Collaborate closely with teachers and other professionals to adapt teaching materials and strategies to meet the needs of students with hearing impairments.
- Assist students in using assistive technology and other devices that aid communication, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants.
- Foster positive relationships with students, providing emotional support and encouragement in their educational journey.
- Monitor and assess students' progress, behavior, and achievements, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians.
- Collaborate with the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and external specialists to ensure appropriate support for students.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance your skills and knowledge in working with students with hearing impairments.

Enhanced Child & Adult DBS - ideally on Update Service (or willing to apply).
Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) is essential. Relevant qualifications or certifications in BSL are highly desirable - minimum Level 2.
Experience working with individuals with hearing impairments or within a special educational needs (SEN) setting is advantageous.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in BSL and spoken English.
Understanding of the educational needs and challenges faced by students with hearing impairments.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching techniques to meet individual students' needs.
Knowledge of assistive technologies and communication aids used by individuals with hearing impairments.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents/guardians, and external professionals to support students' development and progress.
A commitment to promoting inclusivity and advocating for the rights of individuals with hearing impairments.
Familiarity with relevant legislation and safeguarding guidelines for working with students with special educational needs.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing demands of the school environment.
